Submission guidelines and forms
Founded in 2002 by a small group of passionate, young filmmakers, the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival (BUFF) is an outlet for emerging and radical new voices from around the globe. BUFF's mission is to create a fresh arena for discussion between artists, filmmakers, and audiences, with a focus on personal cinema and work driven by new processes. THE FIRST BROOKLYN UNDERGROUND WAS A SOLD-OUT 4-DAY EVENT held in a DUMBO warehouse we converted into a screening room and lounge. We hosted 70+ filmmakers, premiered over 80 films from 10 countries and had capacity crowds of 2000 plus. In addition to the film screenings and discussions, BUFF also curated exhibits with various media and music.

AS A NON-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, BUFF IS CREATING A YEAR-ROUND MEDIA, ART AND FILM COMMUNITY WITH ONGOING SCREENINGS, DISCUSSIONS, AND BROOKLYN-CENTRIC VIDEO/FILM OUTREACH.

As artists and filmmakers who live and work in the Brooklyn area, BUFF is committed to continuing a dialogue with the community that has given us so much. BUFF is building a long-term (still unnamed) screening and exhibition space in our DUMBO headquarters where we will host and curate cinema programs in addition to art and multi-media installations.
